Simon Peter Pre-school offers many varied activities, aimed at building the child's self esteem and personal skills. Each individual has certain strengths and we encourage them to enhance these abilities. Our very skilled teaching staff are well equipped to assess the children's abilities and to encourage them to grow in these areas.
In order to create the environment for growth, the children participate in many activities.
Drama
Simon Peter stages a concert every year, which involves all the children, be it singing, dancing or reciting a poem. The parents have the opportunity to hone their sewing and creative skills at this time, making costumes, painting backdrops etc. The script is usually written specifically for the children, taking into account their abilities and interests for that year.
Music
Simon Peter has a music specialist who teaches the children. She includes movement to music, playing and learning about musical instruments, learning and listening to songs in her program. Music is an integral part of our annual concert.
Baking
Once a week the children bake in their classrooms. The theme for baking is structured around the general theme for the week.
Baker Baker
Once a week, on a Friday, one child from each class is chosen to be the baker man/lady. This is a very special occasion, as the child gets to bring cakes for the class, and the children always enjoy this activity.
Library
The school has a well stocked library of books. The children take out and exchange these books once a week. The parents are invited to get involved in this activity, taking groups of children out of the classrooms to discuss their books.
Developmental play (P.E)
During this time, the children are encouraged to participate in activities which will improve their large motor development. These include ball and balancing exercises, climbing, hopping, skipping, running and jumping, often using games and equipment to facilitate these activities.
Gym
Free Gym program every Friday
Graduation
Those children going to grade one will graduate at the end of the year. This is a very special time, and is combined with a carol service, where the children entertain the parents, singing new and old favourite Christmas carols.
Each year, on the morning of graduation, we have a Christmas party for the children, which makes it a very memorable occasion.
Extramural Activities
These activities are offered, but are not included in the fees:
- Ballet is taught by Hayley Howie to girls who are interested
- Playball is offered to all children 2 years and older.
